Why pour boiling water to kill eggs down my drain?
Do you ever wonder where all the flies and gnats come from? Well, you could be creating a nursery within your kitchen! Boil eggs in your drain! Pouring boiling water to kill eggs down my drain?
Fruit flies and gnats love to lay their eggs in places where there’s a constant supply of food and water. What better place than down your kitchen drain? Many of us have garbage disposal units in our drains. We use them to get rid of food scraps and waste, but do we regularly clean them properly?
The fruit flies and gnats know this, and select this area to lay their eggs. They are kept warm, fed, and watered throughout the year, so we want to help you reduce the problem, if not eradicate the issue for good.
A super simple fix is to pour boiling water into the drain to eliminate drain flies. if you don’t have a kettle, boil the water in a medium-sized saucepan, and once it reaches a rolling boil (For at least a minute), pour the boiling water down the drain once or twice a week.
For an extra precaution, you can mix 1/2 cup of salt with 1/2 cup of baking soda, and 1 cup of vinegar and using a drain brush (or toothbrush) clean around and in the drain, then rinse with the boiling water.
For those persistent gnats, mix the solution mentioned above, but when you pour the solution into the drain, let it sit overnight, then rinse with the boiling water. here is a link for more tips

It’s too hot why do air conditioners require maintenance?
It’s too hot in the afternoon to leave your air conditioning on a day without knowing your AC unit/swamp cooler is in tip-top condition. Air conditioner’s filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance. Further allowing for the unit to function efficiently throughout its years of service. In addition, neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in the unit’s performance while energy use steadily increases.
Air Conditioning Filters
It’s too hot why do air conditioners require maintenance? What is the most important maintenance task? Replace your filters every 3-6 months. For one thing, this will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner. Clogged, dirty filters reduce the amount of airflow and significantly reduce a system’s efficiency. In addition, when airflow is obstructed, air can bypass the filter and deposit dirt directly into the evaporator coil. As a result will impair the coil’s heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 15% especially when you feel it’s too hot.
Don’t forget the coils and fins
It’s too hot why do air conditioners require maintenance? A clean filter prevents the evaporator coil from soiling quickly. Consequently, the evaporator coil will still collect dirt. This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. To avoid this problem, check your evaporator coil every year. Clean it as necessary. It is recommended to minimize dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Also, your dryer vents, falling leaves, and lawnmowers are all potential sources of dirt and debris. Cleaning the area around the coil, removing any debris, and trimming foliage back at least 2 feet (0.6 meters). This allows for adequate airflow around the condenser when you feel it’s too hot.
Why your HVAC technician should be licensed.
Would you go to an unlicensed Doctor? How about taking your child’s car to get fixed at an unlicensed mechanics shop? No, of course, you wouldn’t. What is the main reason you need a licensed HVAC company? They will oversee any work that needs to be done on your AC or Heating system. HVAC equipment can be dangerous if installed incorrectly. Furnaces can blow up. Gas lines can blow up. Your system can leak carbon monoxide.
AC Dave Heating & Air is Licensed
Luckily, AC Dave Heating & Air has been doing this for a long time. AC Dave has been serving this community since 2006. He holds his State contractor license and can pull permits as well as warranties for his work. If you want peace of mind, give our office a call today. We can schedule your summer maintenance, or schedule a service call if your unit isn’t working at its best, call: 661 270 1961.
Take care of those Hot Dogs & Kool cats this summer. Be mindful when exercising your pet. As well as adjusting the intensity and duration of exercise to the temperature, on scorching days, limit activity to early morning or evening hours, and being especially careful with pets with white-colored ears, who are more susceptible to skin cancer, and short-nosed pets, who typically have difficulty breathing. Asphalt gets especially hot and can burn your pet’s paws. Therefore, walk your dog on the grass if possible. Always carry water with you to keep your dog from dehydrating.
Fans may not be enough.
Pets respond differently to heat than humans do. (Dogs, for instance, sweat primarily through their feet.) For one thing, fans don’t cool off pets as effectively as they do people. If leaving pets indoors, keep your cooling system around 76 -78 degrees. Not only should you make sure they have constant access to fresh water and place a fan in their favorite resting area. Cooling mats are also a good idea (Amazon has plenty to choose from).
Shade & Water for outside.
Any time your pet is outside, make sure they have protection from heat and sun and plenty of fresh, cold water. In heat waves, add ice to water when possible. Tree shade and tarps are ideal especially since they don’t obstruct airflow. A doghouse does not provide relief from heat it makes it worse.
Watch for signs of HeatStroke
Extreme temperatures can cause heatstroke. Some signs of heatstroke are heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, lack of coordination, profuse salivation, vomiting, a deep red or purple tongue, seizure, and unconsciousness.
Animals are at particular risk for heat stroke if they are very old, very young, overweight, not conditioned to prolonged exercise, or have heart or respiratory disease. For example, some breeds of dogs—such as boxers, pugs, shih tzus, and other dogs and cats with short muzzles—will have a much harder time breathing in extreme heat. The Humane Society has more info on this topic.
Call us if your system is not maintaining your desired temperature.
If your car is running hot, you take it to a mechanic. Likewise, if your home is not maintaining a comfortable temperature, we come to you. Maintaining 76- 78 degrees within the home will ensure your comfort, and your pet’s comfort too. It will also cut those dreaded bills down. Call AC Dave Heating & Air today to schedule your Summer Maintenance. Call: 661 270 1961 and our professional office team is standing by to help you.

It is officially Summer, with warmer days (and nights). Spending more time at the pool. You want to be cool when you come indoors from the pool, however, you find your unit not working. Therefore, you call your HVAC company only to find their schedule is full. That last part might not be on the list of anyone looking forward to summertime, but it’s accurate. You may be asking, Why can it take so long?
Most people tend to not think about their HVAC, evaporative cooler, heat pumps, or ductless split units until they aren’t working. The first thing they think of is let’s call the HVAC company! Well…as I said most people don’t think about their units until something is wrong. In the same way with rising temperatures, air conditioning units tend to break down as they work harder to cool homes.
For one thing, this means long busy days for techs who are working in the hot temperatures to fix or replace units. This results in longer wait times for the air conditioner to be repaired or replaced.
Why does it take so long? I have a pre-paid maintenance plan
Home maintenance customers can fall victim to this surge in broken A/C units, too! Although it can be frustrating for a homeowner to not have their air conditioner fixed on the same day they call in for service, it’s all part of the season. Here’s why you may not get same-day service for your HVAC unit and what you can do.
Our Technicians Schedule
When a homeowner/customer calls AC Dave Heating & Air, they may be surprised, or even frustrated, when they find the schedule for the day is full. to get an experienced technician out to their home. AC Dave Heating & Air understands this frustration, and we know how uncomfortable it can be when it’s hot in your home! All HVAC technicians know this, too, and try to help as much as possible and are working long hours to help keep you comfortable. Our goal is to provide quality service, therefore, we must keep our technician’s safety utmost when it comes to rising temperatures.
Why does it take so long? I’m just around the corner
HVAC companies schedule, by area, by need (if your unit is on the roof we may need to get there first thing in the morning for the safety of our technicians, installations of unit replacements take a day maybe two that will fill up the schedule also. Their appointments include people who have already called and scheduled appointments for a diagnosis. Sometimes technicians must return to homes the tech has already visited that need an AC repair or full replacement.
When scheduling our technicians, we plan ahead and make sure that if in a certain area, on a certain day, we maximize the number of air conditioning units they can repair in a day. (It allows us to provide service to more customers and is much more effective to drive a few blocks to several different houses than to spend an hour driving back and forth between cities to repair or diagnose two air conditioning units.)
With our Pre-paid maintenance agreement customers, we generally plan for those calls months in advance. This is just another benefit we offer to our maintenance clientele. When emergencies, should arise. If the client in question is elderly, infirm, or has young children, we do our best to squeeze them into our already busy schedules. In the same way, we know heat can play a devastating role for these people.
What You Can Do
If you are not in an emergency situation but your air conditioner is out, there are a number of things you can do to stay cool. As you wait for your HVAC unit to be repaired or replaced this includes: drinking lots of water to stay hydrated, staying in cool parts of your home, and using fans and dampened cloths. AC Dave Heating & Air has made a list of things you can use to cool down while you wait to make yourself more comfortable. Use these tips to prevent dehydration, keep yourself healthy, and keep cool. We will have your HVAC up and running soon!
Call AC Dave Heating & Air now at 661 270 1961, to ensure we get you on our schedule as soon as possible. We thank you for allowing us to be of service.
The best drink during summer. Coconut water naturally has cooling properties that can help you fight against this year’s scorching summer. It can hydrate your body and thus balances the temperature-generating electrolytes naturally. Coconut water due to its malai content is always sweet. You can drink the water and apply the left-out malai on your face, to give a cooling effect to your face.
This healthy drink contains essential probiotics, vitamins, and minerals to keep our bodies cool even in extreme heat. Drinking buttermilk daily or maybe twice a day can help to cool down your body. Try drinking a glass of cold buttermilk to restore your energy and naturally cool your body.
3: Aloe Vera.
The natural cooling agent. It has a commendable effect when it comes to reducing body heat internally and externally. The gel can be applied to the skin and you will experience the cooling effect in no time. Or you can mix the aloe vera gel extract with cucumber or mint and blend it to form a smooth mixture. Drink it and feel the coolness running inside your body.
Mint is usually added to food or drinks to neutralize the heat effect on the body. It also provides an excellent cooling effect too. Adding mint to buttermilk, or lemon water can benefit you more. Making a mint tea, mixed with local honey can also reduce seasonal allergies.
Watermelon is another fruit that is plentiful here in the USA. As well as the water contained in drinking watermelon, which is as high as 92%, it will also prevent dehydration and if consumed regularly, it too can help control your body heat. There are a number of fruits that blend nicely with this abundant fruit. or why not also freeze Watermelon into popsicles, which is a delicious treat for both the young and old.
As well as watermelons, cucumbers also have a high amount of water content. Not only that but are loaded with fiber, which can help relieve constipation, one of the common problems faced during summer or when your body heat increases. Cucumberis not only commonly used in salads but also intense facial treatments to soothe the eyes. Since it contains 95% water, it helps reduce excess calories in the body too. A perfect summer partner!
Yes, you read it right! We will be talking about our spicy little chilies in this section. But the truth is that peppers can help you lower your body temperature. According to research, capsaicin is the active ingredient found in chili peppers. When consumed, it sends a message to the brain indicating that your body is overheating and sweating more than usual, thereby producing a cooling effect. Interesting isn’t it?
8: Lemon Water.
Research has shown that lemon being rich in Vitamin C can help lower body temperature. Furthermore, it can moisturize and oxygenates the body, to help improve energy and feel fresh during summers. It is also one of the important parts of our homemade electrolyte. To make lemon juice, squeeze the juice of half a lemon, add a pinch of salt and ½ tsp of sugar (depending on your taste), and mixed it with cold water. This way, you add all the ingredients that can work as a natural electrolyte for your body.
It is surprising to know that even onions have a cooling effect. Well, it’s considered to be rich in quercetin, which acts as an anti-allergen. It is also beneficial to protect you from sunstroke. You can have them in the raw form by adding lemon and a touch of salt or add them to salads, raitas or sandwiches, etc.
Celery contains 90% water and contains important nutrients, which can keep you cool in summer. Celeryis also high in sodium, potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium, and zinc.
AC Dave Heating & Air always looking out for you.
AC Dave Heating & Air brings you tips for keeping cool throughout these hot Summer months. Alternatively, if you feel your AC or Swamp cooler needs a seasonal check-up, we can do that too. Follow this mini-series, Money Saving Mondays, to find out what AC Dave Heating & Air recommends to do to save some money. What’s more, just a few simple things you can do to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your homes the warmer temperatures of the summer period arrive.
Money Saving Mondays tip #1
Adjust the Temperature
Furthermore, the smallest changes in temperature can greatly impact your home’s energy efficiency. Adjusting the temperature to 68 degrees or lower in the winter days and 78 degrees or higher in the summer, can help you use less energy, according to Energy.Gov
Money Saving Mondays Tip #2
Reduce sunlight in the summer
In addition, you could save money when you have natural sunlight in the winter months to help warm your home. During the summer, you would want to draw your curtains closed or pull down your blinds to prevent that mid-day sun, according to CR (Consumer Report). Controlling the amount of sunlight coming in means your air conditioner or furnace won’t have to work as hard to make your home comfortable.
Money Saving Mondays Tip #3
Turn the water temp down
Adjust the temperature of your water heater. A temperature of 120 degrees is adequate for most homes. In addition, this prevents accidental scalding and also slows the build-up of minerals in your water heater tank.
Money Saving MondaysTip #4
AC Dave Heating & Air would also suggest unplugging electronics when not in use. New technologies continue to invade American households. Most of us seldom remember to unplug or power them down. Furthermore, this can have a significant impact on your home’s energy efficiency, according to a blog written in Constellation.com Also, unplugging rarely used appliances to decrease energy usage around the house. Unplugging electronics like charging devices for phones, tablets, and digital cameras can increase your energy efficiency. Above all, using a power strip with an on/off switch makes it easy to decrease electricity use by powering off multiple electronics at once.
Money Saving MondaysTip #5
Apply Energy Efficiency to your Appliances
Investing in Energy Efficiency appliances will save you on your electricity and gas bills. Your refrigerator is often the leading energy user among a home’s appliances. It is important that it operates efficiently.
Keep the door closed as often as possible.
Check the doors seal regularly
Adjust the temperature of your refrigerator
Furthermore, if your AC / Heating system is old. Call AC Dave Heating & Air and one of our technicians will come and assess the situation for you. Is your system due for maintenance? Call today, our office staff will schedule a maintenance appointment. In brief helps to keep your unit working at its optimal. What could go wrong after a blackout or Rolling Brownout?
Most of us sat in the darkness for a few hours on Monday – But is that where our trouble ended? Let AC Dave explain. What could go wrong after a black out or Rolling Brown out?
Everything electrical stopped working
Rumor has it, a fire caused the Power Outage that affected over 900 homes last week. So out came the candles, the flashlights, the conversations around the table, and off went the TVs, the computers, and the gaming systems. Kids were even spotted playing outside in the warmth of the summer evening (Shocker!).
Some of us enjoyed the serenity of the stillness, while others were completely lost and unable to understand what life was like before it got too complicated thanks – to advanced technology.
But once the power was restored, and everything returned to normal, an underlying issue occurred for some households… Their cooling systems were no longer working. AC Dave Heating & Air would like to offer some troubleshooting ideas to help navigate whether or not the problems are due to the outage.
What could go wrong after a “Blackout”, “Power Outage” or “Rolling Brownout” and what are the differences between the three?
Just energy explains this in more detail, but here is a quick breakdown :Rolling blackouts are an emergency procedure that power grid operators use to balance the power supply in a specific region. Unlike power outages caused by physical damage to power lines or power plants, rolling blackouts are usually temporary and intended to minimize the impact on local electricity consumers. Finally, a Rolling Brownout is a dip in power, only lasting a few moments.
Any one of these events can, and often does disrupt your HVAC/EVAP systems. So AC Dave Heating & Air wants you to go through this simple check, in the hopes of saving you a Call Out fee.
Check your breakers & fuses.
If the fan/condenser is running slow OR not running at all, go to your electrical box and switch OFF your breaker to your AC for approximately 30 minutes. Then switch it back on. If after you have performed this simple re-set and neither the fan nor condenser is performing correctly, call us out to assist you: Tel 661 270 1961
What is the Fourth of July in the United States? The Fourth of July celebrates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The Declaration announced the political separation of the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain.
Why is the Fourth of July celebrated with fireworks?
In Fourth of July celebrations, fireworks signify national pride and patriotism. They had been used in China since at least the 12th cent. In the 15th century, they became popular with European monarchs to celebrate national triumphs, the restoration of peace, and the monarchs’ birthdays. Fireworks have been part of Independence Day in the United States since its first celebration in 1777.
Why did the North American colonies declare independence?
The Declaration of Independence, passed on July 4, 1776, reflected widespread colonists’ dissatisfaction with increased British control. Colonists especially opposed a series of unpopular laws and taxes enacted by Britain beginning in 1764, including the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act, and the so-called Intolerable Acts.
Should election day be made a national holiday like Independence Day?
The Congress had voted in favor of independence from Great Britain on Jul. Still, it did not complete revising the Declaration of Independence, originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson in consultation with fellow committee members John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and William Livingston, until two days later. The celebration was initially modeled on the king’s birthday, marked annually by bell ringing, bonfires, solemn processions, and oratory. Such festivals had long played a significant role in the Anglo-American political tradition. Especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, when dynastic and religious controversies racked the British Empire (and much of the rest of Europe), the choice of which anniversaries and historical events were celebrated and which were lamented had precise political meanings. The ritual of toasting the king and other patriot heroes—or of criticizing them—became an informal kind of political speech, further formalized in the mid-18th century when the toasts given at taverns and banquets began to be reprinted in newspapers.
In the early stages of the revolutionary movement in the colonies during the 1760s and early ’70s, patriots used such celebrations to proclaim their resistance to Parliament’s legislation while lauding King George III as the real defender of English liberties. However, marking the first days of independence during the summer of 17ly took the form in many towns of a mock funeral for the king, whose “death” symbolized the end of monarchy and tyranny and the rebirth of liberty.
All your questions about the Fourth of July are answered here:
During the public’s early years, Independence Day was commemorated with parades, oratory, and toasting in ceremonies that celebrated the new nation’s existence. These rites played an equally important role in the evolving federal political system. The rise of informal political parties allowed leaders and constituents to tie local and national contests to independence and national polity issues. By the mid-1790,s the two nascentpolitical parties held separate partisan Independence Day festivals in most larger towns. For this reason, Independence Day became the model for a series of (often short-lived) celebrations that sometimes contained more explicit political resonance, such as George Washington’s birthday and the anniversary of Jefferson’s inauguration. At the same time,e he served as president (1801–09).
The bombastic torrent of words that characterized Independence Day during the 19th century made it both a solemn occasion and one sometimes open to ridicule—like the increasingly popular and democratic political process in that period. With the growth and diversification of American society, the Fourth of July commemoration became a patriotic tradition that many groups—not just political parties—sought to claim. Abolitionists, women’s rights advocates, the temperance movement, and opponents of immigration (nativists) all seized the day and its observance, often declaring that they could not celebrate with the entire community. In contrast,e an un-American perversion of their rights prevailed.
With the rise of leisure, the Fourth of July in the United States emerged as a significant midsummer holiday. The prevalence of heavy drinking and the many injuries caused by setting off fireworks prompted reformers of the late 19th and the early 20th century to mount a Safe and Sane Fourth of July movement. During the later 20th century, although it remained a national holiday marked by parades, concerts of patriotic music, and fireworks displays, Independence Day declined in importance as a political venue. It remains a potent symbol of national power, specifically American qualities—even the freedom to stay home and barbecue.
