We all want our holidays to go smoothly, without any surprises like power outages, water leaks, septic tank nightmares, or our heating suddenly failing just as grandparents arrive to spend the holidays with us and the grandkids. Things can and do go wrong, often when we least expect it.
Nightmare before Christmas.
Imagine this scenario: Your out-of-town guests are on their way to your home, as this year, you are hosting Christmas for your family. Your tree is adorned with beautiful decorations but the lights are out along with all other electrical devices, including your heating system, due to a blackout. Your pipes burst due to an overnight freeze, so you are waiting for the water company to show up. On top of all that, your toilets are backing up which generally indicates a septic tank issue (Which no one wants when you have house guests). This would be the ultimate nightmare before Christmas, right?
Unavoidable or avoidable – this is the question.
We all think that these things only happen to others. The truth is, these things do happen and can happen to you. So be cautious and proactive. Take the time to ensure your home is prepared for the winter season. Be aware of how long has passed since your septic tank was last pumped. Although none of us can avoid rolling blackouts (Or brownouts), familiarise yourselves with what actions you may need to take with regards to resetting your HVAC system. Frozen pipes are a common occurrence in the Lakes & Mountain district, so know who to call, where the shut-off is to your main water supply, and ensure you have what you need to get to it.
Twice a year maintenance
As a general rule, AC Dave Heating & Air suggests having your HVAC system serviced at least twice a year, to avoid those unexpected breakdowns or interruptions in your service. Leaving things to chance can not only be costly but can lead to bigger issues.
