A little History about Father’s Day
Father’s Day is a celebration honoring fathers: Father figures and the influence of fathers in society. It began in the early 20th century. The first known Father’s Day celebration took place in Monongah, West Virginia. Even though Countries around the world have their customs and traditions for Father’s Day Therefore, celebrating the occasion on various dates, we want to give thanks to all of the great dads out there.
Grace Golden Clayton
1908 Grace Golden Clayton was credited with the first recorded Father’s Day. Remembering fathers and father figures who tragically lost their lives on December 6, 1907. Consequently, two hundred and ten fathers were killed in a mining disaster that took place in Fairmont. It was one of the deadliest mining accidents in the United States’ history. An explosion ripped through the Fairmont Coal Company’s No.6 and No.8 mines.
The Modern Father’s Day
Father’s Day – inspired by Sonora Smart Dodd. She created a day to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single parent who, raised six children. As a result, the first official day Father’s Day was on June 19, 1910, and was celebrated in Spokane, Washington.
President Nixon’s proclamation
Hence, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation in 1972 making Father’s Day a national holiday. The United States celebrates it on the third Sunday in June. Father’s Day is celebrated around the world and is the time for families to show appreciation to all the dads out there.
