A Significant Shift in Eco-Friendly Refrigerants is Coming

A Need to Reduce Environmental Impact

The HVAC industry is undergoing significant changes to eco-friendly refrigerants. This is driven by the need to reduce environmental impact. Traditional refrigerants, such as R-22 (Commonly known as Freon), have been found to contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.

Phasing Out the Old

Subject to these findings, regulatory bodies like the U.S Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and the European Union have implemented stringent regulations to phase out these harmful chemicals.

Current Alternatives will also be replaced

An essential alternative emerging in the HVAC industry is R-410A. This has a much lower Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) than R-22. However, even this refrigerant is being replaced by newer, even more sustainable options such as R-32 and R-454B. Therefore, both have significantly lower global warming potential (GWP) and are more energy efficient.

Lower Energy Consumption

These new refrigerants reduce the environmental impact. As well as causing HVAC systems operate more efficiently. Thus leading  to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Thus, by staying informed on up-to-date regulations AC Dave Heating & Air guarantees our customers cutting-edge, environmentally conscious solutions.  As a result,  we maintain high-quality service and efficiency.

Will I Need to Upgrade?

People replacing their HVAC systems after 2026 will be sold systems with the new refrigerant. However, if  your system uses the older refrigerant, and needs repairs (especially involving a refrigerant leak), it might face some difficulties. Thus, R-22 will become more expensive, and complicated, driving repairs costs up.

Would Retrofitting be an option?

In some cases, retrofitting an older system to accommodate new refrigerants might be an option. However, this might not always be cost-effective. Ultimately, while regulations do not require homeowners to replace functional systems. Therefore, the phaseout of harmful refrigerants may encourage many to upgrade sooner rather than later.
