Our lives were forever changed

In 1980, our lives were forever changed

Little did we know, this would not be the first time our lives would be forever changed. But in 1980, we welcomed our precious daughter into the world. Brianna Brandy, even from a young age, just wanted to help and save everything. She possessed a heart overflowing with love and compassion. Throughout her teenage years, she would offer our home to friends who needed a little break from their own families. Consequently. one of those friends ended up staying with us and is considered one of our own. Her selflessness knew no bounds.

Life took an unexpected turn

Life took an unexpected turn for Brianna after being diagnosed with mental illness.  Following a traumatic event that haunted her and had taken place in her younger years. This incident led her down dark pathways. She battled addiction and she struggled to overcome the demons that taunted her.

Amidst the struggles, a glimmer of hope emerged.

Amidst her struggles, a glimmer of hope emerged when Brianna became pregnant with our Grandson, Daniel. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3. Nonetheless, Brianna did the best she could. She was completely sober while breastfeeding Daniel until he could no longer breastfeed. She would do everything in her power to remain sober for her child, which often involved getting the Tarzana Treatment Center involved as a support system. It was a turning point, a beacon of light that made us truly believe she was on the path to recovery. She fought with every ounce she held, determined to conquer the darkness that threatened to consume her.

Life can be cruel

Six years after Daniels’s birth, our hearts were shattered into a million pieces. We received the devastating news that our precious child had been the victim of an accident involving a semi-truck. The pain is unbearable,. In the same way our world was forever changed once again. In the midst of our grief, we made a solemn promise to God, and Brianna, that we would not only raise Daniel and give him every opportunity to flourish in life. As well as keep him safe as Brianna asked at the same time continue to help others, in their battle to remain sober.

Today’s reflection

As we reflect on Brianna’s life, we are reminded of her unwavering love, her boundless generosity, and her indomitable spirit. As her parents, we, (Laurie and Dave Millard) wanted to honor Brianna’s memory. What better way to do that, other than beginning a 501c3 charity in her name? So the BBMS Happy Children Memorial Fund was founded. We understand the challenges that families living in sobriety face and appreciate how hard it is for some to leave a domestic violence situation.
